Abstract

PHARMACEUTICAL STUDY FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF NEW DRUGS THROUGH CHELATION

Anita Shinde* and Mohan Shinde

Abstract

Metal-containing compounds are important tools in contemporary medicine. The fundamental role of metal complexes and their recognition as important bioactive compounds in vitro and in vivo aroused an ever-increasing interest in these agents as potential drugs for therapeutic intervention in various diseases. The vast array of information available for their bioinorganic properties and mode of action in several biological systems, combined with the new opportunities offered by the flourishing technologies of medicinal chemistry, is creating an exciting scenario for the development of a novel generation of highly active drugs with minimized side effects which could add significantly to the current clinical research and practice. In this paper we attempt to summarize Study of metal complexes especially in the light of the observation that certain Metal complexes of the drug are more potent than the parent drug. With this view in this study some metal complexes of Important antibiotic drugs have been synthesized and screened for their activity towards gram positive and gramnegative bacteria viz. Klebsiella, Staphylococcai, Pyocynus and E coli. Antibiotics used were Amoxycillin, Chloramphenicol, Streptomycin and Oxytetracycline It was observed that some metal complexes are more effective than parent drugs. They are as follows. 1. Cd (II) Complex of Arnoxycilhn. 2. Mg (II) and Ni (II) Complexes of Chlorarnpherucol. 3. Mg (II), Cu (II), Ni (II), Mn (II) and Zn (II) Complexes of Streptomycin 4. Zn (II), Cd (II) Complexes of Oxytetracyclin.

Keywords: Antibiotics, metal complexes, physicochemical properties, gram positive and gram negative bacteria.
