AYURVEDIC APPROACH TO MADHUMEHA W.S.R TO DIABETES MELLITUS: A CASE REPORT

Abstract Diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic disorder characterized by high blood glucose levels that result from defects in insulin secretion, or action, or both. Diabetes mellitus, commonly referred to as diabetes was first identified as a disease associated with "sweet urine," and excessive muscle loss in the ancient world. Elevated levels of blood glucose (hyperglycaemia) lead to spillage of glucose into the urine, hence the term sweet urine. 41 million of the 659 million people in the age group of 20-79 years in India have diabetes. In spite of tremendous advancement of modern system of medicine i.e. oral hypoglycemic agent and insulin till date, an ideal drug which can cure diabetes is not yet available and still scientists are struggling to search an effective and safe remedy. A 50 year old male patient presented with following complaints – general weakness and increased frequency of urination. He was a known case of Diabetes mellitus since 9-10 months. The patient was treated with leaves of bougainvillea leaf and sitaphal leaf 4 leaves each twice daily and some textual Ayurvedic medicines.
