EVALUATION OF WOUND HEALING POTENTIAL OF POLYHERBAL FORMULATION IN EXPERIMENTALLY INDUCED DIABETIC RATS
Mohd Rafiq* and Dr. Sadath Ali
Abstract Even though we have reached the 21st century, wound healing continues to be worrisome status in diabetic affected patient worldwide. But advanced treatments through medicinal plants are fixing them faster than ever. Now a days medicines with poly herbs are getting more influenced in order to achieve extra therapeutic effectiveness, This study was carried out to evaluate the wound healing potential of ethanolic extract of polyherbal ointment containing leaves of Indoneesiella echioides, Canna indica and Mirabilis jalapa in Alloxane (120 mg/kg, I.P.) induced diabetic rats using Burn wound model. The activity was evaluated by parameters namely wound contraction and epithelialisation for 21 days with respect to initial wound size 300 mm2. In this method all animals were divided into six groups. Group I (Control) exhibit 67.48 ±0.6681% wound contraction and epithelisation period was 37.26 ±1.67. Group II was treated by 1% Indoneesiella echioides ointment which exhibit 80.15 ±0.6812% wound contraction and epithelisation period was 27.66 ±1.12. Group III was treated by 1% Canna indica, which exhibit 68.04±0.6487% wound contraction and epithelisation period was 31.00±0.22. Group IV was treated by 1% Mirabilis jalapa which exhibit 73.37±0.6812% wound contraction and epithelisation period was 30.15±0.22. Group V were treated by Polyherbal ointment which exhibit 88.15±0.4045% wound contraction and epithelisation period was 25.22±2.12 and Group VI was treated by (Standard) which exhibit 89.43±0.6681% wound contraction and epithelisation period was 24.10±2.00. All ointments were applied topically. Conclusion: Our present study reveals that the new polyherbal formulations posses potent wound healing activity, which could be a good choice of remedy for wound healing. Keywords: Wound healing, polyherbal ointment, contraction and epithelialisation. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
