QUANTIFICATION OF RUTIN AND QUERCETIN IN DIPLOCYCLOS PALMATUS (ROXb.) JEFFREY

Abstract Diplocyclos palmatus is traditionaly used to treat jaundice, inflammation, malarial fever; antidote to snake bite, migraine and impotency. The HPLC analysis of Diplocyclos palmatus reveals the presence of flavonoids i.e. rutin and quercetin in methanolic leaf and fruit .The rutin and quercetin were detected in fruit extract. Whereas only rutin was noticed in leaf methanolic leaf extract of Diplocyclos palmatus. Flavonoids are polyphenolic compounds occur widely in plant kingdom. rutin and quercetin bear antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti- hepatotoxic, antiulcer, anti allergic, antitumor, antiviral action and they provides protection against cardiovascular mortality. Presence of flavonoids in methanolic leaf and fruit extracts confirms the medicinal value of Diplocyclos palmatus. Keywords: Diplocyclos palmatus, quercetin, methanolic.
