HOW IS THE EDUCATIONAL PERFORMANCE OF URMIA DENTISTRY STUDENTS? A STUDY IN URMIA UNIVERSITY OF MEDICAL SCIENCES, 2016

Abstract Introduction: Academic achievement is one of the important outcomes in educational systems. Academic achievement is mostly important in medical education systems due to their important role in training staff for saving lives. According to the abovementioned matter this study aimed to investigate the educational performance among dentistry students in Urmia University of medical sciences. Material and Methods: This was a cross sectional study conducted on 57 dentistry students which were chosen randomly from Urmia University of Medical Sciences, Dentistry school. Data were collected through a checklist including demographic information such as age, sex and GPA (Grade Point Average). GPA was used as the scale to assess the educational performance among students in this study. GPA is a grade from 0 to 20 in Iran. Data were analyzed through descriptive statistics, T test and Pearson correlation by SPSS v.19. Results: The mean of age was 21.96 ± 3.57, and the GPA was 15.98 ± 1.28. 32respondents were female while others were male. There wasn’t any significant relationship between gender and academic achievement. So wasn’t between age and academic achievement. Females had a higher rate of academic achievement than males.
