PHYTOCHEMICAL ANALYSIS AND ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY OF PLEUROSPERMUM BRUNONIS

Abstract

Phytochemical analysis of aerial parts of Pleurospermum brunonis assessed two favonoid glycosides quercetin-3-O-α-Larabinopyranoside and Quercetin 3-O-β-galactopyranoside from the butanol extract. The chemical structures of these flavonoid glycosides were confirmed by 1-D and 2-D spectroscopic analysis. This is the first time these flavonoid glycosides have been obtained from P brunonis. The crude butanol extract showed inhibitory effect against bacillus licheniformis, Aspergills niger and Aspergillus flavus. The extract shows sensitivity for both gram positive and gram negative bacteria and fungi with maximum against Aspergills niger and minimum against S. mutans.
