EFFICACY OF LEECH THERAPY IN THE PAIN MANAGEMENT OF PARTIAL LIGAMENT TEAR AS A MINIMAL ACCESS IN SURGERY

Abstract Aim of Study-The present study is planned to assess the efficacy of leech therapy in the pain management of Partial Ligament tear. Summary: Ligament injuries in Athelets are common and can occur at any joint at any age. The knee and ankle joints are particularly vulnerable. Ligaments are strained when the joint is stressed beyond its normal range. Common causes are twisting or landing awkwardly. 3 grades of ligament tear: Grade 1-Mild tear (damage to few collagen fibres) Grade 2-Moderate ( partial tear ) Grade 3- Severe Materials and methods: 30 patients were selected from OPD and IPD of R.A.Podar medical college according to inclusion criteria .Leech application was carried out without any prior medication.5 settings were done at the interval of 1 week. Clinical criteria for assessment are:1) Pain 2) Swelling 3)Tenderness 4) Impaired function Statistical analysis: Data was analysed using Wilcoxon matched pair test. Conclusion:This studies shows that Leech therapy has effective results in the Pain Management of Partial Ligament Tear Key words-(Leech, ligament tear, Inflammation).
