A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF PHYSICO-CHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF APAMARGA KSHAR, PALASH KSHAR AND CHINCHA KSHAR
Reshu Rathore* and Vd. Shriram Savrikar*
Abstract Kshar is a kind of medication described in Ayurveda Texts. It is alkaline substance obtained from the ashes of different drugs. It is a medicine, prepared out of the dried plants water soluble ashes by a special process known as Kshar kalpana. Apamarga kshar, Palash kshar and Chincha kshar are included in Ksharashtak in Rasatarangini and used in various diseases. Objective: To prepare and compare physicochemical characteristics of apamarga, palash and chincha Kshara. Materials and Methods: Apamarga, palash and chincha Kshara was prepared as per rasatarangini and characterized by organoleptic characters, physico-chemical parameters, quantitative chemical tests. Results: This study clearly revealed that percentage yield of apamarga kshar, Palash Kshar and chincha Kshar obtained from completely dried panchanga of apamarga, stem bark of Palash and bark of fruit of chincha are 6.1, 9.9 and 7.1, respectively. Apamarga, Palash and chincha Kshar showed some difference in the percentage of the sodium, potassium, chloride, carbonate, iron, calcium, Sulfate and phosphate ions. Conclusion: palash kshar has the highest pH 11.20, moisture content 2.96%, potassium with 37.70% and iron with 72.91 ppm while apamarga kshar has highest % of sodium with 25.81%, chloride with 8.41%, and carbonate with 45.40% and Calcium with 188.07 ppm but phosphate was seen highest 359.97 ppm in chincha kshar.
