STUDY OF PHYSICO-CHEMICAL PROPERTIES AND ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY OF SHUKTI MARIT HARATAL BHASMA IN VITRO
Vd. Swati S. Chivhane* and Vd. Shriram S. Savrikar
Abstract Haratal is an orpiment compound of arsenic trisulphide (As2S3), Shukti is a compound of calcium carbonate (CaCO3). Haratal bhasma is used in various skin disease inspite of its toxic nature. In Arsenic toxicity, deposition of arsenic is mainly seen in calcium compound (e.g. Nail beds, hairs etc) because arsenic have affinity toward calcium. So in Shukti Marit Haratal bhasma affinity of arsenic toward calcium may reduce or fulfilled outside the body. This study includes shodhana of Shukti and Haratal, Marana of Shukti and Haratal. Physicochemical analysis and antimicrobial study of Shukti Marit Haratal Bhasma was conducted on various strains of bacteria. So an attempt has been made to put Shukti Marit Haratal Bhasma as an antimicrobial agent. Keywords: Shukti Marit Haratal Bhasma, Orpiment, Shukti, Antimicrobial agent.
