EVALUATION OF ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY OF ALCOHOLIC EXTRACT OF ARAUCARIA HETEROPHYLLA LEAVES

Abstract

The present study in aims to determine the antimicrobial activity of Araucaria heterophylla. Alcoholic extract of leaves were used at the concentration of 5% and 10%. The alcoholic extract was screened for antimicrobial activity against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria by using agar cup plate method. The screening results showed that the alcoholic extract of leaves of Araucaria heterophylla were screened & found to be effective against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and proteus vulgaris. The study suggests that the leaves of Araucaria heterophylla were promising in the development of antimicrobial properties.
