A REVIEW ON ZIKA VIRUS

Abstract Zika, is a flavivirus mainly transmitted by mosquitos of Aedes genus,it was discovered in 1947 in Uganda. The World population is facingdifferent health problems from zika virus and it’s vector. A pregnantwoman can pass zika virus to her fetus during pregnancy it may causesmicroencephaly and also other brain deformities in fetus. In adults zikavirus infections are characterized by subclinical or mild influenza-likeillness, it also causes severe manifestations including Guillain-Barresyndrome. Its spread to various countries has led to a global healthemergency. Fast dissemination of this virus in different geographicalareas posses a major threat especially to regions where the populationlacks herd immunity against the ZiV and there is abundance of Aedesmosquitoes. There are no effective vaccines or treatment is available till now. The main focusof this review is to summarize current global scenario, epidemiology, pathophysiology,diagnosis and remedial measures for ZiV considering the Indian perspective.
