Abstract The present study aims at screening for cytotoxicity and antioxidant properties of extracts from S.fradiae MB isolated from sponge derived actinomycetes. S.fradiae MB (isolated in the previous study from Demospongiae) was cultured in starch casein agar. The International Streptomyces Project (ISP-1) medium was used for the fermentation process and extracellular metabolites were extracted using the solvent ethyl acetate. The brown colored extract obtained was dissolved in DMSO and screened for DPPH radical scavenging activity and cytotoxicity activity using brine shrimp lethality bioassay. The secondary metabolite showed 63% inhibition at 0.2 mg/ml, and cytotoxic activity with LC50 value of 0.5 mg/ml. The findings proved that the strain had potent cytotoxic activity and antioxidant activity. Keywords: Actinomycetes, Cytotoxic, Antioxidant. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
