SYNTHESIS, CHARACTERIZATION AND BIOLOGICAL STUDIES OF NOVEL HETEROCYCLIC COMPOUND

Abstract A novel, efficient and environmentally friendly method for the synthesis of 3-benzyl –2,6-bis-(1H-indol-3-yl)-piperidin-4-one. The compound has been derived by the condensation of 4-phenyl-2- butanone and Indole-3-carbaldehyde using ammonium acetate. The structure of the synthesized compound was elucidated by spectral studies such as IR, 1 H, 13C-NMR, Elemental analysis and Biological studies. The newly synthesized compound was screened by its antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Basillus subtilis, Aspergillus niger, Klebsiella aerogenes and Candida albicans.
