A COMPARATIVE STUDY ON SHALMALYADILEPA AND VACHADILEPA IN THE MANAGEMENT OF YAUVANPIDIKA (ACNE VULGARIS)

Abstract Background: The disease „Yauvana pidaka‟ is aptly named „Mukhadooshika‟ as it results in disfigurement of face. The disease produces swellings on the face that resemble like the thorns of the Shalmali (Bombax malabaricum DC) tree. Aims and objectives: the present study was to compare the efficacy of Vachadi Lepa with Shalmalyadin Lepa in the management of Yauvanapidika. Material and methods: Shalmalyadi Lepa and Vachadi Lepa was prepared in powder form for the facial application with suitable media among 20 patients in each groups from the OPD and IPD department of Kaya Chikitsa at Parul Ayurveda Hospital, Limba, Baroda. Lepa was applied twice a day in morning and evening. The duration of the treatment was for 30 days. The patients were followed on for the period of 30 days after completions of the therapy. Results: Group A and B showed statistically significant results after the treatment. While comparing effects of therapy both the groups by unpaired t test, group B showed better effect than group A with no of pidika, medogarbhata, shoth, vedana, srava, daha which showed statistically significant results. Conclusion: Study reveals that the effect in Shalmalyadilepa group was much better than the Vachadilepa group. Keywords: Yauvana pidaka, Shalmaladi lepa, Vachadi lepa.
