Abstract

Nowadays pharmaceutical industries are aiming on development ofsustained release formulations due to its inherent boons. Sustainrelease system are considered a wiser approach for the drugs with shortbiological half-life and which need to repeated dosing and Matrix typedrug delivery system is a new approaches when developing an oralcontrolled release system. Which is providing promising way tominimize the side effects of drug and cure of the disease is achieved bypreventing the fluctuation of the therapeutic concentration of the drugin the body. There are several benefits of sustained release drugdelivery over conventional dosage form like improved patient compliance due to lessfrequent drug administration, maximum utilization of the drug, increased safety margin ofpotent drug, minimize the fluctuation in plasma drug concentration levels, reduction inhealthcare costs and improved the therapeutic effectiveness with shorter period of treatment.
