A REVIEW ON ISATIN DERIVATIVES WITH DIVERSE BIOLOGIGAL ACTIVITIES
Vandana K.*, Akash Marathakam, Thushara B. S. and Rajitha K.
Abstract Isatin (2,3-dioxindole) is a heterocyclic compounds, and is a indole derivative. Isatin derivatives are synthetically important substrates, thus used for the synthesis of a large variety of compounds, and act as a raw material for drug synthesis. The compound was first obtained by Erdman and Laurent in 1841 as a product from the oxidation of indigo dye if it is mixed with nitric acid and chromic acids. It is a versatile precursor for many biologically active molecules and its diversified nature makes it a versatile substrate for further modifications. Recently, Isatin derivatives have attracted strong interest in organic and medicinal chemistry due to their potent biological and pharmacological activities. Isatin and its derivatives possess numerous biological properties like anticancer, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anticonvulsant, antiviral, anticonvulsant, anthelmintic, anti-HIV, antioxidant, CNS depressant activities. The present review provides a brief overview on the recent advances and future perspectives on pharmacological aspects of Isatin and its derivatives reported in the last decade. Keywords: Isatin, Antimicrobial, Anticancer, Anti-HIV, Analgesic, Anti-inflammatory. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
