IMPORTANCE OF TEXTUAL TOOLS IN UNDERSTANDING TREATISE

Abstract

Samhitas are famous as one of the remarkable accomplishment of ancient Indian science having specific writing pattern showing historical aspect of that time. Though original texts are available in Sanskrit, indicating every word formed according to accurate rules. So knowledge of Sanskrit should be must to garner the meaning of word. Author of any scientific treatise have its own concise explanation of a grammatical aphorism. As regard Charaka his language is more archaic than that of Susruta. Tantarkara uses various texual devices to decorate and illuminate the text. The purpose behind using these is to give vast knowledge in a special way some subjects described in Samhitas are sometimes not elaborately explained, some are having hidden meanings, some are only mentioned. To understand these deep routed verses .In order to understand these subjects of Samhita these decorative textual device became valuable tools like Tantra Yukti, Tantrguna, Kalpana, Arthasharya, Tacchilaya. Nyaya etc. The need is to have the knowledge of these tools and ability to apply them.
