Abstract

Identification is essential not only for legal but also for humanitarian grounds. In situations where finger print, dental records or biometric examination of teeth pose a difficulty in arriving to confirmatory conclusion, palatal rugae analysis can act as useful adjunct in human identification. Palatal rugae analysis (Rugoscopy) can take center-stage in certain situation such as when edentulous person’s identity is concerned. In the present review, an overview of palatal rugae and its analysis along with its application in forensic odontology has been disussed.
