SYNTHESIS, CHARACTERIZATION AND ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITIES OF SCHIFF BASE FUNCTIONALISED COPPER NANOPARTICLES
Santhalakshmi P., Saritha S. and Vijayalakshmi K.*
Abstract In the present research work, initially the copper nanoparticles were synthesized from the Moringa oleifera and Vinca Rosea leaf extract. The abundances of different phytochemicals (carbohydrates, flavanoids, glycosides, phenolic compounds and proteins) from leaves of Moringa oleifera and Vinca Rosea were evaluated and the results were discussed. Followed by this, the biologically active amino acid Schiff base and fuschin Schiff base functionalised onto the above prepared copper nanoparticles was synthesized and characterized. The characterization of the prepared Schiff base stabilized Cu nanoparticle carried out by UV and FT-IR spectroscopic techniques conclude the formation and stabilization of Schiff base over the Cu nanoparticle. The antibacterial activity of fuschin Schiff base functionalised onto the above prepared copper nanoparticles against Pseudomonas aureginosa (gram positive bacterium) and E.coli (gram-negative bacterium) were investigated. From the obtained results of zone of inhibhition values it was concluded that the fuchin Schiff base functionalized Cu nanoparticle showed higher antimicrobial activity.
