PREPARATION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF CHITOSAN/PVA DIP COATED CELLULOSE FIBERS FOR HEAVYMETAL CONTAMINATED WASTEWATER TREATMENT
R. Chitra, A. Dinesh Karthik, T. Gomathi and Sudha P. N.*
Abstract In my research, I used Chitosan/PVA dip coated cellulose fibers for the heavy metal Ni2+ contaminated wastewater treatment. The Chitosan/PVA blends of different compositions with and without cross linking agent Glutaraldehyde dip coated on cellulose fibers are prepared and used for this purpose. The prepared blends were characterized by FTIR, TGA, XRD and SEM studies. The adsorption studies were done by changing the adsorbent dose, contact time of the metal solutions and Ph of the medium. The outcomes demonstrates that the heavy metal tainted wastewater can be treated with suitably arranged polymer blends. Keywords: Chitosan/Poly vinyl alcohol, FTIR, SEM, TGA and XRD.
